Q&A with Marci Coleman

Q&A with Marci Coleman

Every Thursday these past few months, we've been going live on Instagram with artists who will be performing on the OXEN Apparel Spotlight Stage at Unity Christian Music Festival. But with Marci Coleman, we got a chance to go a little deeper with some written Q&A.
Q: How did you get your start?  What encouraged you to pursue music at the beginning?
A: I started singing in church since as long as I can remember. When I was in my teens I slowly started teaching myself a bit of piano and started to write my own songs. I eventually picked up the guitar at 18, went to college to pursue music, wrote more songs, and had help along the way! I honestly believed at a young age that I wanted the Lord to use me through music. I've had the dream for a while, but one moment I will never forget- I was 7-8 years old and was in the backseat of a car with a friend and we had little notebooks in hand. I started to sing to the song on the radio and made up my mind in that moment that I was going to have my own song on the radio someday. So I started writing a song in my notebook right then and there! I've loved songwriting and singing ever since- but that was when the goal was born. Someday I will hear my own song on the radio. :)
Q: For those that haven't had the opportunity to hear your music yet, what can we expect to see at your performance at Unity Fest?
A: I really hope that you can expect some fun and the message of the songs loud and clear! I love to connect people with strong themes through out my music, because I believe in the power of being relatable and encouraging others that you're not alone. I'm super excited about my new single coming out because it's super dancy and fun. Hopefully people will want to dance with me!
Q: How can the fans at Unity Fest give you energy as you preform?
A: Clap along and dance along with me! I love to see smiling faces and people who are willing to listen to people they haven't ever heard before. So be present with me as  I try to be with you!
Q: How does your faith in Jesus come out as you write/sing songs?
A: Jesus is the outpour of everything in me. It's all about Him. I write for all the reasons. When I'm sad, mad, or glad; alone, heartbroken, or joyful! He fulfills me and completely is enough for me, so my faith is simply SO easy to sing/ write about because He is enough and helps me through this journey of life. I simply love to sing about His love, because it is never ending- despite all my messy humanness. I love expressing gratitude to him in anyway, shape, or form because I'm simply unworthy, and am so passionate about encouraging others to do the same.
Q: What is something that the Scriptures have been teaching you lately?
A: Goodness. The gospels honestly! I've been going through them with my bible study and the Lord is truly reminding me just how faithful he truly is. Despite all my unbelief, he will prove himself to be full of truth, and not deceit. He will prove himself to be full of care/ details and not forgetful. He is proving over and over to me that he is faithful to His promises. He is faithful despite the outcomes. Ask the Lord for more fish and he will ask you to throw your net to the other side and fill it up with EXTRA.
Q: What opportunities are coming up for you this summer/fall that you are most excited about?
A: I am most excited about my new music coming out! AH! I have a few things coming up this summer with festivals and camps, but I'm most excited about releasing this new song and seeing the outcome. :D Be sure to stay tuned for it on all social media and iTunes, Apple Music, & Spotify!
Q: What are the best ways for fans to connect and/or learn more about your music?
A: All the social media! I'm there. I even have SnapChat. Although I don't use it that much. :) I'm also on all music streaming services, iTunes, GooglePlay, and you purchase merchandise and music on my website: marcicoleman.com. Give me a follow, comment, direct message, or tweet and I'll definitely be in touch! @marcicolemanmusic
